Description
Malt House Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with mid-19th century and mid-20th century alterations and additions. It is timber-framed with some replacement timbers, painted brick infill, brick replacement walling, and a thatched roof. The cottage has three framed bays aligned north to south, featuring an inserted chimney to the north of the central bay that creates a lobby entry, as well as an external chimney at the south gable end, which is now truncated. It is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers. The framing consists of two and three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with long straight braces in the lower and upper corners, and collar and tie-beam trusses supported by two struts to the collar. The west front elevation has irregular fenestration, including two 3-light casements (one with a plank weathering) and one 2-light casement; there is a central gabled dormer with a 2-light casement and plain tiles replacing the thatch at the junction with the main roof. A half-glazed door is located to the left of the central bay. The interior has not been inspected. At the rear, there are two 20th century lean-to extensions adjoining the outer bays.
