Description

Woodstock Cottage is a house dating from the 15th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. It features a timber frame set on a lias limestone plinth, with painted brick infill and a plain tiled roof. The building consists of three framed bays arranged east to west and has a large external brick chimney with offsets at the east gable end. There is also an inserted fireplace at the east end of the west bay, with a brick stack at the front of the ridge. The cottage is single storey with an attic that includes dormers.

The framing is cruck-framed, primarily with two panels from the sill to the wall-plate, and full cruck trusses are exposed at both gable ends. The south front elevation has irregular fenestration, with the ground floor featuring two 3-light casements and one 2-light casement, all with plank weatherings, as well as a small rectangular light. There are two gabled dormers with 2-light casements, and the main entrance is located in the east end bay, which has a ledged and battened door. Additionally, there is a stable door in the west end bay and an attic light in the west gable end. The interior has not been inspected, but it appears that the intermediate crucks have been retained. There is also a 20th-century lean-to extension at the west gable end. Woodstock Cottage is one of three cruck-framed houses in the village.
