Description

Church Cottage is a house dating back to the 15th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-20th century. The house is constructed with a timber frame, featuring painted brick and rendered infill, replaced brick walling and refacing, and a half-hipped thatched roof. It has three framed bays, with a chimney situated between the south end and the central bay, featuring paired diagonal brick ridge stacks and a large external chimney with offsets at the north gable end. The house is of single-story design with an attic, including dormers. The framing is cruck-framed, showing very irregular panels, two, three, and four panels high from sill to wall-plate. The east front elevation includes a swept brace in the lower right corner and exposes a full cruck truss in each gable end. The fenestration on the east front is irregular, with the ground floor containing two three-light casements and two rectangular lights. A central eyebrow dormer is cut into the thatch, housing a two-light casement, and there's a stable door to the far left. The interior has not been inspected. A 20th-century lean-to extension has been added at the south gable end. This is one of three cruck-framed houses in the village.
