Description
The Crowle War Memorial is made of Portland stone and features a wheel-head cross atop a square shaft with a splayed base. The cross-head displays the letters HIS as a monogram carved in relief at its center. The shaft is set upon a splayed trapezoid plinth, which rests on a three-stepped square base.
On the front face of the plinth, an inscription in lead lettering reads: "IN MEMORY OF THE FOLLOWING CROWLE MEN WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY DURING THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918 (NAMES) ERECTED BY THE PARISHIONERS." Additional names from the First World War are inscribed on two other faces of the plinth.
After the Second World War, another inscription was added, stating: "IN MEMORY OF THE FOLLOWING CROWLE MEN WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR 1939 – 1945 (NAMES) INSCRIBED BY THE PARISHIONERS."
