Description
Martin's Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill, as well as brick replacement walling and refacing, topped with thatched roofs. The structure consists of two framed bays aligned north to south, with an additional framed bay at the north gable end that encloses a former external chimney. The building is single storey with an attic that includes dormers, along with a single-storey addition.
The framing includes three panels from the sill to the wall plate, with short straight braces in the upper corners. A collar and tie-beam truss with two struts survives in the north gable end. On the west front elevation, the main part of the house has one window in each bay; the ground floor features two 2-light casements, and above are two gabled dormers cut into the thatch, also with 2-light casements. The main entrance is located in the single-bay extension, which has a small ledged and battened door. There is an attic light in the south gable end. The interior has not been inspected.
