Description
Wheel Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-20th century. The house is timber-framed, with painted brick and rendered infill, brick replacement walling, and a plain tiled roof. The south gable end is half-hipped, and there is a brick ridge stack. The original layout consisted of three bays aligned north/south. The framing is predominantly three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with some short straight braces in the upper corners. A collar and tie-beam truss with struts and V-struts is visible in the apex of the north gable end. The west front elevation has an irregular arrangement of 20th-century casement windows; the ground floor has two three-light windows and the first floor has a two-light window. A doorway has been blocked on the right side, and a blocked door with a cambered head is present in the south gable end. The current main entrance is at the rear, with a 20th-century door. The interior of the property was not inspected. The cottage is included on the list for its group value.
