Description
The Old Shop Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill, and parts have been rebuilt in painted brick. The roof is covered with slate. The cottage has two framed bays that run north to south, with the south gable facing the street. There is an external rendered rubble stack with a rectangular-plan brick shaft. The building is one storey high with an attic, which is lit by a 2-light casement window in the gable. On the ground floor, to the right of the stack, there is a 2-light casement window from the 20th century. The entrance is located on the east front, which also features a gabled dormer for the attic. The framing originally had three square panels high, but only the upper panel remains. The gable-end truss includes two struts to the collar. The cottage is included for its group value.
