Description

Lucton Court is a house dating from the early 17th century, with extensions added in the late 17th century and some late 20th-century restoration. It is a timber-frame building resting on a ground floor of coursed rubble, with slate roofs. The building is arranged in an L-shape, with one wing extending west along the street and the other wing extending south, having been added in the late 17th century. A large chimney stack is situated at the junction of the two wings.

The east front features a gabled, earlier range to the right, showing two storeys with three windows. This section has two fixed casement windows flanking a window with three diamond-plan wooden mullions. To the left of this is a 4-light casement window, leading to a four-panel door. Further to the left is a two-storey block with painted rubble walls and one timber cross-window on the ground floor, alongside a 3-light casement. The extreme left features a three-storey, late 17th-century addition, with two timber cross-windows, including two 2-light casements on the second floor.

The earlier portion of the building exhibits close-studding with mid-rail to the first-floor side walls, and features three square panels on the gable, all secured with straight tension braces. The gable-end truss has two collars and multiple struts. The late 17th-century addition is framed to the second floor, with three square panels.

Inside, the rooms generally feature exposed stopped and chamfered ceiling beams. The main chimney stack has a moulded mantel beam on the north side (only half remaining), and a plain mantel beam to the inglenook on the south.
