Description
Mortimer's Cross Mill is a mill that likely dates from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and restoration completed in the late 20th century. The building is constructed from coursed rubble and has a slate roof.
The south front of the mill features three storeys. The second floor is illuminated by a gable-end casement window, while the first floor has a two-light window on the left and a loft door on the right. The ground floor includes two windows on the left and an entrance on the right, which is framed by a wooden architrave and has a stable door. On the left-hand (west) gable, there is an under shot wooden wheel with metal paddles.
Inside, the mill retains three pairs of stones that are driven by restored spur gearing. The mill is also scheduled as an Ancient Monument and is under the guardianship of the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission.
