Description

CROWLE CP CHURCH ROAD (west side) SO 95 NW 6/6 Crowle Cottage GV II House. C15 with mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations and additions. Timber-framed, painted brick infill, brick replacement walling and concrete tiled roof. Three framed bays aligned north/south, large external chimneys with offsets and detached stacks at gable ends. Single storey and attic with dormers. Framing: cruck-framed; wall-frames have two and three panels from sill to wall-plate, full cruck trusses exposed at gable ends. East front elevation: irregular fenestration; ground floor has four 2-light casements, the one to the far left with a cambered head. To the right of this is a gabled bay window with a 2- light casement and small double doors set beneath; above are three gabled dormers to each framed bay, each having a 2-light casement; to left of centre is a porch with a lean-to catslide roof, a 3-light casement in its front elevation and a C20 door to the left side. Attic lights in gable ends; north end chimney has a rectangular light at the base of its east side. Interior: two full intermediate cruck trusses are retained. C20 extension at rear. One of three cruck-framed houses surviving in the village.
