Description

The Barn is a late 18th-century barn located on Church Road in Crowle. It is timber-framed and sits on a tall brick plinth, with weatherboarding and a half-hipped roof covered in plain tiles, added in the mid-20th century. The barn has four bays aligned east/west. The wagon bay second from the west gable end has cart entries with double doors on opposite sides. Raking buttresses are visible on the plinth of the east gable end. The south elevation features a large metal-framed window with multiple panes and a cambered top in the left-end bay, and two rectangular windows are in the west gable end.

Inside, the framing consists of long rectangular panels from sill to wall-plate, along with collar and tie-beam trusses featuring two struts and angled braces from the main strut base to the principal rafters. There are two tiers of trenched purlins and a board ridge. The west end bay has been floored.

A single-bay stable addition is attached to the west gable end, constructed partly of brick and partly with weatherboarded timber framing, and has a hipped tile roof. The south front of the stable features a stable door and a wood-mullioned window with a blue brick sill.
