Description

This is a pair of houses dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The houses are timber-framed with rendered infill, and the front is faced with roughcast brick, topped by a machine-tiled roof. The four bays are aligned east to west. There are large external chimneys with offsets at both gable ends; one gable-end chimney is detached, and the other is enclosed by an additional framed bay slightly lower than the main part. The main section of the house also has a central chimney with a brick ridge stack, and features a single-storey design with an attic containing dormers. A dentilled eaves cornice runs along the front. The timber framing shows three panels from the sill to the wall plate, with short straight braces visible in some upper corners. The roof structure contains collar and tie-beam trusses with struts partly visible at the gable ends. The south front consists of three three-light casement windows and two two-light casement windows on the ground floor, all with cambered heads. There are four gabled dormers, three with two-light casements, and one infilled with louvred glass. Two ledged and battened doors are present, one with a flat canopy supported by shaped brackets, and the other with a cambered head. There are also attic windows in the gable ends. The interior retains much of the original timber framing. A single-storey, two-bay addition from the 19th century was added to the west gable end and is not considered to be of significant architectural interest. C19 and C20 additions are present at the rear.
