Description

The Little House is a mid-18th century house located on the east side of High Street in Redditch, with some alterations made in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed of brick featuring alternating patterns of headers and stretchers, with painted stone dressings and a plain tiled roof that has a ridge stack at the right end. It stands two storeys tall with an attic that includes a dormer. There is a band at the first floor level and a narrow moulded eaves cornice.

The house has three bays, with rusticated end quoins. On the ground floor, there are two 20th-century multi-paned bow windows that have moulded cornices. The first floor features three windows with cambered heads and stone keyblocks; the outer bay windows are 16-pane sashes with moulded architraves, while the central window is a 20th-century replacement sash window in the original opening. At the top, there is a small central pedimented gable with a semi-circular headed 6-pane attic window, likely replacing an original lunette.

The central entrance is framed by a moulded cornice and an eared and moulded architrave, leading to a door with six raised and fielded panels. Four stone steps with simple cast iron railings provide access to the entrance. An attic light is present in the right gable end. Although the interior was not inspected, it is noted to have substantial ceiling beams and some heavy rear wall-framing, indicating earlier origins.
