Description

Forest Cottage is a house dating from the early 17th century, which was restored in the mid-20th century. It features a timber-framed structure with rendered infill on a sandstone rubble and brick plinth, along with painted brick refacing, replacement walling, and additions. The roof is machine-tiled. The building has four framed bays aligned in a north-east/south-west direction, with a single-bay intersecting wing at the south-west end. It is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers.

The framing consists mainly of three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight braces in the upper corners. The structure includes collar and tie-beam trusses, with the truss at the south-west end of the main part featuring three struts to the collar and a V-strut in the apex. The truss at the west end and the wing truss to the north-west have two struts to the collar.

On the north-west street elevation, the windows are 20th-century leaded casements. The ground floor of the main part has a 3-light window and a 2-light window with plank weatherings, another 2-light window, and a large square-headed archway in the north-east end bay. There are four gabled dormers with 2-light windows. The main entrance, located to the right, has a lean-to porch at the angle with the wing and features a 20th-century door. The interior has not been inspected, and there have been 20th-century alterations and additions at the rear.
