Description
A row of two houses located on the west side of High Street in Redditch, dating to the late 18th century with alterations in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. The houses are built of brick, with a patterned façade featuring red stretchers and blue headers, and have plain tiled roofs. Number 43 is a single-storey building with an attic and dormers, while number 45 is two storeys high. Both houses feature dentilled eaves cornices. They have two and two bays respectively. A 19th-century canted bay window with a hipped roof and a three-light casement with a cambered head is present on the ground floor of both houses. Number 43 has two gabled dormers, which were blocked at the time of inspection in July 1985. Number 45 has two first-floor three-light casements with cambered heads. The central entrances are topped with flat canopies, and have part-glazed 20th-century doors. The canopy for number 43 is supported on large brackets, while number 45 includes a pilastered surround and entablature. An additional doorway is located to the right of number 45, featuring a canopy on shaped brackets, a moulded architrave, and a half-glazed 20th-century door. A large stack is located to the left of the roof. The interiors were not inspected. A former 19th-century stable wing adjoins number 43 at the rear and has been altered to form garages for number 41; it is not considered to be of special architectural interest.
