Description

The Old Needle Mill is a needle mill that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early 19th century and was converted and restored in the mid-20th century. The building features stuccoed brick on a sandstone base and has a slate roof that is hipped at the south end, with two rendered ridge stacks. It is two storeys high and has a moulded eaves cornice.

The facade consists of six bays, which are highlighted by a round-headed blind arcade with an impost band. The ground floor has five original multi-paned metal windows with cambered heads, while the first floor features six original lunettes with radiating glazing bars set beneath round arches and above the impost band. Above the four central bays, there is a pedimented gable that contains a small circular louvred opening. The main entrance, located in the fourth bay from the left, has a moulded cambered canopy supported by fluted consoles and a 5-panelled round-headed 20th-century door. The south side wall also has two similar lunettes.

Inside, the building retains original ceiling beams. The Old Needle Mill is one of the smaller and more interestingly designed buildings in the region that is connected with the needle-making industry.
