Description

The Rose and Crown Public House, along with an attached outbuilding that likely served as a stable, dates back to around 1800 and has undergone alterations in the mid-20th century. The building features painted brick and a machine-tiled roof with end stacks. It stands two storeys tall with an attic and dormers, comprising three bays. The right ground floor window and two first floor windows are 3-light casements with cambered heads. There is a canted bay window on the left side of the ground floor and a central first floor 2-light casement with a cambered head. The roof has three gabled dormers, each with 2-light casements. The central entrance has been widened and features a mid-20th century pedimented and pilastered surround with a pair of modern doors. The interior has been partly remodelled.

The attached outbuilding, located at the rear right, is from the early 19th century and is also made of painted brick with a half-hipped slate roof. It has two storeys and a dentilled eaves cornice. The ground floor includes two round-headed openings with inserted modern casements and a single-light window with a cambered head. The first floor has three large 3-light casements with cambered heads, along with two wide doorways featuring cambered heads; one has a modern door with a side light, while the other has large double doors. The building is prominently situated at the north-east end of the High Street, adjacent to Nos 50 and 52, and is included for its group value.
