Description

The Feckenham War Memorial stands in the churchyard of St John the Baptist Church. Designed by the Bromsgrove Guild and unveiled in 1920 by the Earl of Coventry, it commemorates those who died in the First World War and later, the Second World War.

The memorial is constructed from Portland stone for the upper section, set upon a sandstone platform. It takes the form of a Calvary cross, featuring a gabled hood with decorated bosses, set upon a tapered octagonal shaft. This shaft rises from a square plinth, which itself sits on a square platform of three steps.

The south front displays a high-relief figure of the crucified Christ on the cross, which bears a carved scroll with the letters ‘INRI’. A wheel head is located at the juncture of the cross arms. Below the crucifix is a moulded band. The plinth on the south side contains a recessed panel with the inscription "TO . THE . GLORY OF / GOD & IN MEMORY / OF THE MEN OF THIS / PARISH WHO GAVE / THEIR LIVES IN THE / GREAT WAR 1914-1918". Below this inscription on the lower plinth is the text "ALSO THOSE WHO FELL IN THE / WORLD WAR 1939-1945". The remaining three sides of the memorial are inscribed with the names of the fallen from both world wars.
