Description

The Old Court House is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and a late 20th-century extension. It is timber-framed with painted brick and rendered infill, replacement brick walling and additions, and has plain tiled roofs. The house has three framed bays aligned east/west, with a rebuilt external chimney at the east gable end. It is a single storey with an attic, featuring dormers. The timber framing shows three panels from sill to wall-plate and short straight braces in some upper corners. The collar and tie-beam roof truss at the west end has two collars with a single central strut, and raking struts in the lower corners; the east end truss features three struts to the collar and a concave V-strut in the apex. There is a gable at the junction of the west and central bay with two struts beneath the collar. The south front has a 4-light casement with a cambered head on the ground floor to the right, and a small original gabled dormer with concave V-struts and a 2-light casement. The main entrance is beneath the gable, now accessed via a 20th-century gabled timber porch with glazed sides and a 20th-century door. Attic lights are in the gable ends. Interior details include largely intact timber framing and the roof structure. A large extension was added to the rear left side, and plank weatherboards are visible at the first floor and tie-beam/collar level at the west end.
