Description
Pound House is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. Originally, it was timber-framed with rendered infill, but the walls are now mostly refaced or rebuilt in painted brick. The house has a slate roof with a brick stack located at the rear of the ridge. It consists of two framed bays that are aligned roughly east to west, featuring a central chimney that creates a baffle-entry plan. The building is two storeys high and has a dentilled eaves cornice.
On the north front elevation, there are two ground floor three-light casement windows with plank weatherings, and two first floor three-light casement windows. A 20th-century timber porch and door are also present. Inside, the roof structure is mostly intact, and some wall-framing can be seen at the first floor level, along with a large fireplace in the east bay. There is a 20th-century addition at the rear of the east bay. The house is located either on or next to the old village pound, and despite the 19th-century remodelling, it retains its original plan form.
