Description

The Bell Inn is a public house that was originally a house, with its current form dating from around 1700, although it has been remodeled from an older structure and has undergone mid-19th century and late 20th century alterations and additions. It is constructed of brick, partly rendered, and features a machine-tile roof with large brick stacks. The building has a T-plan layout, with the main part consisting of five bays and a large central chimney that creates a lobby-entry plan. There is a three-bay cross-wing at the left gable end, which has a stack to the left of the ridge and a 19th-century external chimney on the left side.

The inn is two storeys high and has a three-course band between the storeys along with a dentilled eaves cornice. The windows feature stone lintels. On the west front elevation, the main part has three ground floor and five first floor cross-casements, as well as a rectangular light on the ground floor. The entrance in the third bay has a stone lintel and 20th-century double doors, while there is an additional entrance in the first bay that features a 20th-century gabled brick porch and door. The cross-wing gable end includes a three-light ground floor casement with a transom and a first floor cross-casement.

Inside, the inn features stop-chamfered main ceiling beams and large back-to-back fireplaces. Some timber-framing from the original house is visible at the rear, along with the original plan form. The late 20th-century single-storey additions to the rear are not considered to have special architectural interest.
