Description

Moor Hall is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from around 1680, with mid-19th century alterations and additions. It is constructed of handmade brick on a chamfered sandstone base, with some areas rendered, and features a plain tiled roof with external end chimneys, the left of which is large and has offsets. The building has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar, with a two-course band between the main storeys that continues around the left chimney, and a cogged eaves cornice.

The house has three bays, with windows that are 19th century insertions featuring cambered heads and 16-pane sashes. The ground floor windows break through the two-course band, while the central first floor window has been blocked. The central entrance is highlighted by a sandstone lintel and brick pilasters on pedestals, topped with a moulded flat canopy supported by timber posts. The doorway includes a moulded architrave, panelled reveals and soffit, and a six-panelled door, two of which are glazed. Above the entrance is a datestone with a cornice and a cable moulded surround, inscribed with "Non Domus/ Dominum/ sed Domi/ nus Domum/ Honestat/ I T E 1680." There is also a Birmingham fire insurance mark above the datestone.

Inside, some moulded ceiling beams remain, but the interior has otherwise been remodelled in the 19th century. A late 18th century wing is located to the rear left, featuring decorative cogged courses at its gable end, while a 19th century kitchen wing is situated to the rear right. The house is said to have belonged to the Tristram family and is located on a moated site, part of which still survives to the southwest of the house.
