Description

Monkwood Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and restoration in the late 20th century. The cottage features a timber-framed structure with rendered infill, brick refacing, replacement walling, and an addition, topped with a plain tiled roof. It has two framed bays aligned north-west to south-east, with a rebuilt external chimney, a detached stack, and likely a lean-to bread oven at the south-east gable end. The north-west end was extended by one bay during the 19th century, maintaining a continuous roofline. The building is single storey with an attic that includes dormers.

The framing consists of four panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with a collar and tie-beam truss featuring raking struts in the south-east gable end. The south-west front elevation has two 20th-century two-light casements with cambered heads on the ground floor, accompanied by a row of three large 20th-century leaded lights to the right. There are three gabled dormers with two-light 20th-century casements, and the main entrance, located to the right of centre, features a 20th-century gabled timber-framed porch and door. An attic light is present in the north-west gable end. The interior has not been inspected. There is also a 20th-century addition to the rear left.
