Description

Hollowfields is a house dating from the 17th century, which was remodelled in the mid-19th century and has had alterations in the mid-20th century. The building features a combination of part timber-framed construction with brick infill and brick replacement walling, as well as sections that are entirely brick, topped with plain tiled roofs. It has a U-shaped plan, with the main three-bay section oriented north to south. This section includes a large chimney with a brick ridge stack at the north end of the central bay and an external chimney on the south gable end.

To the west, there is likely a former rear elevation that includes a single-bay timber-framed north wing and a small 19th-century south wing featuring a gable end chimney and a lean-to addition. The house is part single storey with an attic, which has dormers, and part two-storey with a dentilled eaves cornice. The timber framing consists of three rows of panels from the sill to the wall-plate, and the west gable end has a collar and tie-beam truss with two struts and a V-strut in the apex.

On the west entrance elevation, the central section features a 4-light casement window on the first floor, and below it, there is a 19th-century gabled porch built on a brick base with a ledged and battened door. The left gable end has an attic light with plank weathering, two 2-light casements on the ground floor, and a flat-roofed dormer with a 2-light casement at the angle with the main part. Inside, the main beams are stop-chamfered, there is a winder staircase in the timber-framed wing, and a large fireplace is located in the central bay of the main section.
