Description

The Hamlet is a house that has been divided into two dwellings. It dates from the 17th century and has undergone alterations in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The building features a timber frame with rendered infill, some weatherboarding, and plain tiled roofs. It has a hall and cross-wing plan, with the hall section consisting of two framed bays oriented roughly north to south. There is a chimney in the north bay that has three star-shaped stacks. The cross-wing, located at the north gable end, has two framed bays and an external 19th-century chimney at the east gable end, along with a single-bay wing that adjoins to the southeast.

The house is two storeys tall. The framing includes four panels from the sill to the wall-plate, collar and tie-beam trusses with two collars, four struts to the lower collar, and two to the upper collar, along with a concave V-strut in the apex. The southeast wing has three rows of panels from the sill to the wall-plate, and its truss features three struts to the collar and a V-strut in the apex.

On the west front elevation, the hall section has a 20th-century single-light casement with plank weatherings, along with two rectangular lights on the ground floor (one with plank weathering). The first floor has a 3-light and a 2-light 19th-century casement. The main entrance at the rear features a 20th-century door. The cross-wing gable end includes a 20th-century ground floor 4-light casement, a 3-light and a 2-light first floor casement (two of which have plank weatherings), and a 19th-century ledged and battened door with a lean-to tiled canopy supported by shaped brackets. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
