Description

Barn and stable, dating to the 17th century with alterations in the mid-19th century. The building was converted into a house in the late 20th century. It is timber-framed with some brick infill, primarily weatherboarded, and has a plain-tile roof. A 20th-century stack is present. The structure is single-storey with an attic. A 20th-century porch is on the left side, and there are six 20th-century windows. Additional 20th-century extensions have been built on either end, with 20th-century windows, French doors, and skylights to the rear.

The interior features 20th-century partitions and a staircase. The barn's four framed bays run east to west; a former wagon bay has cart entries second from the east end. The timber framing includes three-panel construction from sill to wall-plate, with long straight lower corner braces and some short straight braces in the upper corners. The ends have collar and tie-beam trusses with three struts to the collar, a V-strut above the collar on the east end, and a single strut to the apex on the west end. Intermediate tie-beam trusses have raking struts, and there is a single tier of trenched purlins. Some 20th-century replacement work has been undertaken.

A stable adjoins the west gable end, built of brick with a plain-tile roof. This section has a cogged eaves cornice, a two-light window, a rectangular light, and a door with a cambered head on the south elevation. External sandstone and brick steps at the west end lead to a loft door and a three-light window, both with cambered heads. A single-bay brick addition dating to the 19th century is attached to the east gable end of the barn. The barn and stable are located close to the north wing of Upper Beanhall Farmhouse. The building is included for group value.
