Description
Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1600, which was remodelled in the late 19th century after a fire. It features painted brickwork but retains a timber-framed gable end wall with rendered infill and has plain tiled roofs. The main part of the building is three bays wide and aligned north to south, with a timber-framed north gable end and an external chimney with offsets on the south gable end. There are two parallel rear wings, with the northernmost wing having a large chimney and a brick ridge stack. The farmhouse is two storeys high with an attic and has a dentilled eaves cornice.
The timber framing on the gable end includes close-set vertical studding on the ground floor and three rows of square panels on the first floor, with long straight braces across the upper corners. The collar and tie-beam truss features two collars, five struts to the lower collar, and two to the upper collar, along with decorative additional struts and a V-strut in the apex.
The east front elevation displays a regular arrangement with two three-light casement windows on both the ground and first floors; the ground-floor windows have cambered heads. The central first-floor window is blind. The entrance is centrally located and features a gabled timber-framed porch with trellis infill and a six-panelled door, of which the upper four panels are glazed. The north gable end has tiled weatherings between the storeys, a three-light casement window on both the ground and first floors, and an attic light. Inside, there are some stop-chamfered main beams, and the roof dates from the 19th century.
