Description

Parkhall Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1600, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The building features a combination of timber framing with brick infill and replacement walling, as well as sections built entirely of brick, all topped with plain tiled roofs. It has an H-plan layout, with a central framed bay that runs north to south and includes a large external chimney with four star-shaped ridge stacks, creating a lobby entrance. The cross-wings consist of two framed bays, which have been extended to the rear with a 19th-century brick bay. The front elevation of the central part may have been brought forward to align with the gable ends of the cross-wings during this period.

The farmhouse is two storeys high with an attic. The front elevation of the gable ends features four rows of closely spaced vertical studs, with the lower row primarily replaced by brick. The collar and tie-beam trusses include vertical struts and a king-post above the collar. The side elevations display either two or three rows of rectangular panels above the girding beam. On the west front elevation, there are casement windows with plank weatherings throughout. Each gable end has a three-light window on both storeys, while the central bay features a first-floor cross-casement. The main entrance has a six-panelled door, with the upper two panels being glazed, and is adorned with a moulded architrave and a tiled lean-to canopy supported by shaped brackets. The interior has not been inspected but is reported to have been altered in the 19th century.
