Description
Lower Doddenhill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-18th century, mid-19th century, and mid-20th century. The building is timber-framed with brick infill, brick refacing, and replacement walling, topped with plain tiled roofs. It has a hall and cross-wing plan, with the hall section consisting of three framed bays aligned east to west. The west bay features a large chimney with a brick ridge stack, which contributes to a lobby-entry layout. The cross-wing, located at the west end, comprises two framed bays. The farmhouse has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar. The framing includes three rows of exposed panels at the first floor level on the side and rear elevations, with long straight braces in the lower corners. The east gable end and rear cross-wing display collar and tie-beam trusses with two collars, four struts to the lower collar, and two to the upper collar.
On the south front elevation, all windows are 3-light casements with cambered heads. The hall section has two windows on both the ground and first floors, a large gabled dormer with an attic light, and a mid-20th century lean-to half-glazed porch with a half-glazed door at the angle with the cross-wing. The cross-wing gable end features a window on both the ground and first floors, along with an attic light. The interior has not been inspected. There is a 19th-century wing and a lean-to addition at the rear of the hall.
