Description

Pound Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from around 1600 with alterations made in the mid-19th century. The building features a timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill, along with brick refacing and replacement walling, all topped with plain tiled roofs. It has a hall and cross-wing plan; the hall consists of two framed bays aligned southwest to northeast, with a 19th-century chimney at the northeast end and a large inserted chimney in the southwest bay, which has a group of four stacks on the northwest roof pitch. The cross-wing at the southwest end also has two framed bays and features an external chimney with offsets and two stacks on the side elevation; all of these stacks are 19th-century and set diagonally.

The farmhouse is two storeys high, with gable ends that have moulded bargeboards and pendant finials. The framing includes four panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight upper corner braces. The northwest gable end has a slightly projecting attic storey with a moulded bressummer and a collar and tie-beam truss featuring three struts to the collar and a concave V-strut in the apex. Throughout the building, there are 19th-century casements.

On the main northwest elevation, the ground floor of the hall has a 2-light window with a plank weathering and a bow window. The cross-wing gable end features a 3-light window on both the ground and first floors, with the first-floor window also having a plank weathering. The main entrance is located on the southwest elevation, which has a 19th-century gabled and balustraded porch on a brick base, leading to a 20th-century door. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. There are also 19th-century additions at the rear.
