Description
Lake Bridge No 29 is an early 19th-century canal accommodation bridge that has undergone later alterations. It is constructed of red brick, with the outer faces of the parapet rendered and sandstone and blue brick coping. The bridge features an elliptical arch and cambered sides. The parapet includes a two-course band at its base, is splayed at each end, and is finished with square piers. This bridge is part of the Worcester and Birmingham Canal, which was built for the Earl of Dudley between 1791 and 1815 to connect the Birmingham Canal Navigations with the River Severn, primarily to facilitate the transport of coal from the Black Country to the south-west Midlands. The towpath runs beneath the east side of the bridge.
