Description
Dunhampstead Bridge No 30 is a canal road bridge built in the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed from red and blue brick, featuring a blue brick parapet and coping. The bridge has an elliptical arch with cambered sides. The parapet includes a two-course band at its base, is splayed at both ends, and is finished with square piers that have sandstone capping. The Worcester and Birmingham Canal, for which this bridge was built, was constructed for the Earl of Dudley between 1791 and 1815 to connect the Birmingham Canal Navigations with the River Severn, primarily to transport coal from the Black Country to the south-west Midlands. A towpath runs beneath the east side of the bridge.
