Description
Old Thatch is a 17th-century cottage that has been altered and extended in the late 20th century. It features a timber-framed structure with rendered infill, brick replacement walling, and a brick plinth. The cottage is topped with a thatched roof and has a large, external, rendered brick chimney on the left gable end, which includes thatched offsets and a bread oven. The building consists of two framed bays and is a single storey with an attic that has dormers.
The framing includes three rectangular panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short, straight braces in the upper corners, while the end trusses are not exposed. On the front elevation, the ground floor has a 20th-century casement window and a rectangular light, while the upper section features two dormers cut into the thatch, each with paired 20th-century casements. There is also a small, square fire light located on the front side of the chimney base. The main entrance is now situated in a single-storey, 20th-century wing at the right gable end, which connects the older structure to a large extension. The interior was not inspected. Additionally, there is a well located at the front right of the building. At the time of the survey in August 1984, the cottage was undergoing restoration.
