Description
Lower Smite Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century. It is constructed of brick, featuring a mix of hand-made and machine-made brick for its replacement walling and extensions. The roof is plain tiled, with raised eaves and raised verges. A large external brick stack is located at the rear, with tiled offsets, and there is also a brick stack on the left side of the building. The farmhouse has a T-shaped plan, with a long main range oriented on a north/south axis and a cross-wing at the north end. It stands two storeys tall. The front elevation displays a regular arrangement of windows, with a ratio of 1:3, all featuring cambered heads and 16-pane sashes that are widely spaced across the main range. The central entrance consists of a late 19th-century part-glazed door topped with a lean-to lead canopy, and there is a blocked entrance to the left of this central door. At the rear, there are single-storey additions from the late 19th century.
