Description
Offerton Bridge, No 24, is a canal road bridge built in the early 19th century. It is constructed of blue and red brick with sandstone coping. The parapet features alternating courses of blue headers and red stretchers. The bridge has an elliptical arch, and the parapet is splayed at each end. The number 24 is inscribed on a stone at the center of the parapet. The Worcester & Birmingham Canal, which this bridge spans, was built by the Earl of Dudley between 1791 and 1815 to connect the Birmingham Canal Navigations with the River Severn, primarily to transport coal from the Black Country to the south-west Midlands. Offerton Bridge is part of a group that includes Offerton Bridge Lock.
