Description
The Forge is a house dating from the 17th century, with early 20th-century alterations and additions. It is timber-framed, featuring painted brick and rendered infill, with brick additions that are partly painted to resemble timber framing, topped by a plain tiled roof. The building consists of two framed bays aligned north-west to south-east. There is an external chimney at the north-west gable end, which is enclosed within a single-bay addition, and another single-bay addition at the south-east gable end that has a large stack on the rear roof pitch. The house is single storey with an attic.
The north-east front elevation includes four 2-light casement windows on the ground floor, with the two in the brick additions having cambered heads. There are four gabled dormers, each with 2-light casements, and two gabled timber porches featuring lattice side infill and ledged and battened doors; the left door has a cambered head. Attic lights are present in the gable ends. The interior has not been inspected but is said to retain its framing. There is an outshut at the rear.
