Description

Gordon's Cottage is a house dating from the 16th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century and restoration in the mid-20th century. It features a timber-framed structure with rendered and painted brick infill, along with brick replacement walling and additions, all topped with plain tiled roofs. The cottage consists of two framed bays aligned north to south, with a rebuilt 20th-century external chimney at the south gable end and a single-bay addition from the 19th century at the north gable end. It has a mix of single storey and attic with dormers, as well as two storeys.

The framing includes two and three panels from sill to wall-plate, with short straight braces in the upper corners, and the south gable end has been rebuilt. On the east front elevation, the original part features four ground-floor 2-light casement windows and a gabled 20th-century dormer with a 2-light casement; two windows have been inserted in former blocked doorways. The brick addition to the right has a ground- and first-floor 2-light casement window, with the ground-floor window displaying a cambered head. The main entrance is located at the north gable end through a 20th-century addition.

Inside, the roof includes an intermediate collar and tie-beam truss, although the purlins have been replaced. The building is prominently situated and forms a group with Gordon's Farmhouse and the Church of St Peter Ad Vincula.
