Description

Eaton's Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the late 19th and mid-20th centuries. The building is timber-framed with painted brick infill and replacement walling, topped with plain tiled roofs. It likely consists of three framed bays aligned north-west to south-east, featuring a large external chimney at the rear of the north-west bay. The structure is single storey with an attic that includes dormers.

The framing consists of three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with a long straight brace in the lower corner at the north-west gable end. Above this, in the gable, there is a collar and tie-beam truss with two collars, four struts to the lower collar (one of which has been replaced by a window), and two struts to the upper collar, along with a concave V-strut in the apex.

On the north-east elevation, there is plank weathering at the first-floor level. The ground floor features two 2-light casements, while the attic has two gabled dormers with 2-light casements. A central gabled timber porch with a 20th-century door and moulded architrave is also present. An attic light is located in the north-west gable end. A brick stack is positioned on the rear roof pitch at the south-east end.

Although the interior was not inspected, it is noted to have a large fireplace at the south-east end. Additionally, a semi-circular lias limestone rubble bread oven projects from the south-east gable end, which was retained when the gable end and chimney were altered. There are 19th and 20th-century additions at the rear.
