Description
Yew Tree Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. The building is timber-framed, featuring painted brick and rendered infill, with some brick refacing and replacement walling. It has partly rendered sections and tile-hung gable ends, topped by a machine-tiled roof. The farmhouse is designed in an L-shape, with the main part consisting of three framed bays aligned north to south, and a central chimney bay that includes four diagonal brick ridge stacks. There is a two-bay southeast wing that has a large external sandstone chimney and a rebuilt brick stack on its north side.
The farmhouse is two storeys high. The framing includes some close-set studding visible at the ground floor level on the northeast side, with two rows of panels and long straight lower corner braces at the north end and on the north side of the east wing. No trusses are visible. The main west elevation features two 3-light casements and a single-light casement on the ground floor, all with cambered heads, and three 2-light casements on the first floor. The south side elevation was refronted in the mid-19th century and consists of three bays, with two canted bay windows on the ground floor and 3-light first floor casements above them, along with a central first floor 2-light casement. The central main entrance is marked by a gabled timber porch that has a moulded finial and glazed sides, leading to a 4-panelled door with a cambered head. The interior is said to feature large back-to-back fireplaces.
