Description
The Catshill and North Marlbrook war memorial is a First World War memorial that was erected in 1927 and altered after the Second World War. It is made of granite with a marble figure and a stone platform.
The memorial features a sculpted marble figure of a First World War soldier with arms reversed, positioned on a high, polished granite pedestal that stands on a three-stepped stone platform. The pedestal bears an inscription in black lettering that reads: "LEST WE FORGET / ERECTED TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND / TO COMMEMORATE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE / OF THE MEN OF CATSHILL WHO GAVE THEIR / LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918," along with the names of the 68 men who lost their lives. Additionally, there is a brass and black enamel plaque at the foot of the pedestal that lists the names of the 26 servicemen who died during the Second World War.
The memorial is enclosed by hoop-topped railings and a gate along the roadside, which were renewed in 1998, but these features are not included in the listing.
