Description
Lawn Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the late 16th century and was remodeled around 1856, with some alterations and additions made in the mid-20th century. The building features a combination of timber framing with painted brick and rendered infill, as well as areas of painted brick, all under plain tiled roofs. It consists of four framed bays that are roughly aligned north to south, with a large external chimney at the north gable end, which is now enclosed by a 20th-century cross-wing.
The structure is partly single storey with an attic that includes dormers, and partly two storeys with a dentilled eaves cornice. The framing primarily consists of three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with some large swept braces in the lower corners, although the trusses are not visible. On the west front elevation, the ground floor features a 2-light casement window, two narrow lights, and three gabled dormers with 2-light casements. There is a 20th-century door in the northernmost bay, flanked by 20th-century rectangular lights, and a half-glazed door in the southernmost bay. A central lean-to addition is also present.
While the interior has not been inspected, it is noted to have retained much of its internal framing, including moulded main ceiling beams. The roof has been raised at the rear elevation. Additionally, there is a gabled mid-19th century porch at the rear, featuring pointed lights and a doorhead. At the south gable end, a semi-circular lias limestone rubble bread oven has been preserved. The 20th-century cross-wing is not included in the listing.
