Description
Offerton Bridge Lock is a canal lock built in the early 19th century. It is primarily constructed of blue brick in English bond, featuring bullnosed brick copings, sandstone paving, and some concrete repairs. The lock is approximately 7 feet wide and has lock gates that are in full working order, with two gates at the west end and one gate at the east end. Steps on either side of the lock lead up to the west end gates. The Worcester & Birmingham Canal, which includes this lock, was built by the Earl of Dudley between 1791 and 1815 to connect the Birmingham Canal Navigations with the River Severn, facilitating the transport of coal from the Black Country to the south-west Midlands. Offerton Bridge Lock is part of a group that includes Offerton Bridge.
