Description

The Farm is a farmhouse dating from around 1600, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and restoration in the mid-20th century. The building features a combination of timber framing with rendered infill and brick replacement walling, as well as sections made of brick, topped with a plain tiled roof. It has a hall and cross-wing plan, with the hall part aligned north-east/south-west, which was rebuilt in the mid-20th century. The cross-wing, consisting of two framed bays, is attached to the south-west gable end and has a partly rebuilt external chimney with tiled offsets, along with a 20th-century external chimney on its south-west side elevation.

The farmhouse is two storeys high, with an attic and cellar, and features a dentilled eaves cornice. The framing of the north-west bay of the cross-wing remains intact, showcasing three rows of panels from the sill to the girding beam and from the girding beam to the wall plate. The upper two floors are jettied on shaped brackets, and the structure includes a collar and tie-beam truss with two collars, four struts to the lower collar, and two struts to the upper collar.

On the south-east front elevation, all windows are 20th-century leaded casements. The hall part has a 3-light and a 2-light window on both floors, with a 20th-century entrance door to the left. The cross-wing gable end features a 4-light window on both the ground and first floors, as well as an attic light, and there is a rectangular light with a cambered head at the angle with the hall part. Inside, the original winder staircase is preserved in the cross-wing, and there is a 3-light 17th-century mullion and transom window on the ground floor of the cross-wing at the north-west gable end.
