Description

Eardiston House is an early 19th-century house, with alterations and additions made in the mid- and late 19th century and the mid-20th century. The house is built of stuccoed brick with two-span slate roofs concealed behind a parapet. It has large brick stacks. The building is two storeys and has an attic, featuring an entablature, and is arranged with a 4:1:4 bay facade. Giant clasping pilasters are located at the ends of the house and between the eighth and ninth bays. A pediment sits above bays one to four and six to eight. Bays one to three have ground and first-floor 12-pane sashes. The fourth bay contains a tripartite ground-floor sash and a first-floor sash. Bays six and seven have a ground-floor 20-pane sash and a first-floor 16-pane sash, while the eighth bay has a ground and first-floor 16-pane sash. The north bay has blind openings on both floors. A two-storey porch wing, with a parapet and giant clasping pilasters, adjoins the fifth bay. On the first floor, the wing has a 9-pane sash, and a Doric distyle portico projects from the ground floor. The doorcase within the portico has a round-arched head, flanking pilasters, and a large half-glazed door. Inside, a large open-well staircase with turned balusters, turned newels with ball finials, and a mid-19th-century ceramic tiled floor is located to the rear left. A large two-storey wing is attached to the left side, but is not included as part of the listed building.
