Description
Nashfield Cottage is a house from the mid-17th century that was restored in the mid-20th century. It features a timber-framed structure with rendered infill, brick replacement walling, and a plain tiled roof. The building has two framed bays aligned north to south and includes a large external chimney with tiled offsets and a detached brick stack at the south gable end. It is a single storey with an attic that has dormers.
The framing consists of three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with only the upper row visible on the east front elevation. There are long straight braces in some lower corners, and collar and tie-beam trusses at the gable ends, with four struts beneath the collar at the north end and three struts beneath the collar at the south end.
On the east front elevation, there are windows that are all 2-light casements, including three ground floor windows, one stair light, and two gabled dormers. The main entrance, located to the right, has a 20th-century gabled timber porch, a multi-paned door, lights in the side elevations, and a stable door within. The attic lights are situated in the gable ends.
Inside, the framing is mainly intact, and there is a large fireplace retained at the south end. At the rear, there is a 20th-century lean-to with a catslide roof, as well as a 20th-century glazed lean-to that encloses the chimney at the south gable end.
