Description
The Birches is a house dating from the early 19th century, with alterations and additions made around 1900. It is constructed of stuccoed brick and features shallow-pitched slate roofs with overhanging eaves supported by shaped brackets and large ridge stacks. The building has two storeys and pedimented gable ends.
The south entrance front consists of three bays, which are highlighted by paired giant pilasters and clasping pilasters at the ends. The outer bays have pedimented gable ends. On the ground floor, there are two 15-pane sash windows with cornices on large consoles, while the first floor has three 12-pane sash windows. The central entrance is framed by a portico supported by two fluted Greek Doric columns in antis, leading to a half-glazed door with a heavy moulded architrave. The east front features a 3-light semi-circular bay window with 12-pane sashes. The interior has not been inspected.
