Description

Brook House is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 17th century and has undergone alterations in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The building features a timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill, as well as some brick replacement walling and a plain tiled roof. It consists of four framed bays that are aligned east to west, with an external rendered chimney and a detached brick stack at the west gable end. The structure is single storey with an attic that includes dormers.

The framing includes three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, although only the upper row of panels remains visible on the front elevation. The roof features collar and tie-beam trusses with struts, and a V-strut in the apex at the east gable end. On the south front elevation, the ground floor has a 2-light 19th-century casement window with plank weathering, a cross-casement window, and a 2-light 20th-century casement window. There are also two gabled dormers, one with a 2-light casement and the other with a 2-light casement and a square light. A half-glazed door is located in the west bay, with plank weathering continuing above the 2-light 20th-century casement to the left. Additionally, there is a stable door in the third bay from the west end.

Inside, the framing is mostly intact, and there is a winder staircase in the second bay from the west end. Adjoining the west gable end is a single-storey wing from the 19th century, constructed of brick with a Welsh slate roof. This wing was originally a kitchen with a bread oven and boiler but was altered in the 20th century to serve as an entrance hall, featuring a half-glazed entrance door to the main south elevation.
