Description
Oldfields Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. The building is timber-framed with painted brick infill, replacement walling, and additions, featuring a tall sandstone rubble and brick plinth and a plain tiled roof. It consists of two framed bays aligned north to south, with a 20th-century external chimney with offsets at the south gable end and a single-bay addition at the north gable end that continues the main roof ridge. The farmhouse is single storey with an attic that includes dormers.
The framing includes three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with long straight braces in some lower corners, but no trusses are visible. The west front elevation shows that the original part has a 2-light and a 3-light casement window, along with a half-glazed door, all featuring plank weatherings. The 20th-century part to the left has a ground floor 3-light casement and a gabled dormer with a 2-light casement. There are also attic lights at the gable ends. The interior has not been inspected but is said to retain much of its original framing. There is a lean-to addition at the north gable end.
