Description

Astley Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the 17th century with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It is timber-framed with painted brick infill and replacement walling, a rubble plinth, and a plain tiled roof. The building consists of two framed bays aligned east to west and features an external chimney with a detached brick stack at the west gable end. It has two storeys and a cellar. The framing includes four rows of panels from the sill to the wall-plate, long straight braces across the lower corners, and collar and tie-beam trusses with struts. At the west end, there is a V-strut in the apex.

On the south front elevation, there are two-light and three-light casements on the ground floor and two two-light casements on the first floor, with a cellar door located to the right of centre. The interior has not been inspected. There is a rubble single-bay addition that encloses the external west chimney and features a lobby entrance; this addition has two storeys, a dentilled eaves cornice, and ground and first floor two-light casements. The entrance includes a lean-to timber porch and a 19th-century door. Additionally, there is a single-storey and attic rubble single-bay addition on the east gable end, which has a 20th-century multi-paned door with a cambered head on the front elevation and an attic light in the gable end.
