Description

Mill Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-20th century. It features a timber frame with rendered infill, a rubble base, brick replacement walling, some rubble walling, and an asbestos-tiled roof. The structure consists of two framed bays aligned east to west, with a large rubble chimney at the east end of the ridge and an external brick chimney at the west gable end. The building is single storey with an attic that includes dormers.

The framing includes three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, although only the upper row is retained at the front. It has a collar and tie-beam truss with two struts to the collar and V-struts in the apex at the east gable end. The south front elevation features two ground floor 2-light casements and two gabled dormers, each with 2-light casements. There is a central gabled brick porch with a 20th-century door. The interior has not been inspected.

Adjoining the west gable end is a 20th-century extension of two bays, and there is a lean-to addition at the rear. A convex bulge in the east gable end wall is likely a remnant of a former bread oven.
